Our day

We have a general ‘rhythm’ to each day, which is a guide to our routine but is flexible to accommodate the weather and the needs and interests of the children. We open our doors to children at 8.15am and we close at 3.45pm.

We do not have formal ‘sleep’ time but rather we have a relaxation time and make provisions to support children's need for rest & relaxation during the day.

The children have access to a huge playground with trees, natural grass, a wide range of surfaces, gardens to explore, a sandpit, a digging patch, multiple areas for equipment and more. We have appropriate toilets and hand washing facilities and a space for each child’s belongings each day.

Children bring all their own food (morning tea and lunch). Lunch boxes are stored in the fridge to ensure safe food handling processes. Children also bring a drink bottle of water which is always available to them and is refilled with filtered water as required.

8.15am on: Arrival - As children arrive, they are signed in electronically. Children make their way through to the locker area where they are supported by an educator to unpack and put things where they belong. Children put sunscreen on if required and wash their hands before moving to their playroom. Children are encouraged to find an experience to start their day.

9.30: Morning together time – Some music is played and each groups gathers with their educators on the mat. This time allows us to see who is at preschool, greet our friends and educators and discuss the happenings for the day.

9.45: Outside – around 9.45am or so we head outside to play. The weather does not play a huge role in our outside play – if it is hot we have loads of water play, if it is cold we wear jackets and beanies and if it is raining we put on our raincoats!

10.30: Morning tea – Our eating mats are placed out and the children can decide when they would like to eat morning tea. Children wash their hands and collect their morning tea (in its own special bag) and sit with friends to eat. When finished they pack away, return the morning tea bag to their hook and wash their hands.

11.00: Outside – we continue our play – outside and on the veranda. In extreme weather we may have the option to be inside or on the veranda (we are flexible)

12.30: Relaxation / group time - We move inside and wash our hands and gather on our group mat for a time of relaxation – this might be listening to music, yoga, guided breathing or something else to help our bodies and brains relax and recharge. We then move into a group time – some days this is small groups of children and an educator and other days the whole group will listen to a story, sing songs, dance or learn sign language.

1.00pm: Lunchtime - As relaxation / group time ends we move to wash our hands and find our lunch boxes. Lunch is usually eaten outside on the eating mats with our friends. Staff encourage children to eat, as we eat our lunch at the same time, with the children.

1.30: Outside – our play continues after lunch, again usually in our amazing playground.

2.30: Pack away – We start the process of packing away the playground, encouraging the children to care for our resources by helping to put them away and clean up.

3.00: Group gathering – Children move inside, wash their hands and pack hats etc. away into their bags. They then gather all together for a story.

3.15: Fruit – We have a generous fruit box donated each week by Kellyville Woolworths. Around 3.15pm children who are still at preschool can sit and enjoy a small snack of fresh, seasonal fruit.

Home time: You are welcome to collect your child whenever suits you – some children are collected around 2.30pm and others at 3.40pm. We MUST have all children signed out by 3.45pm.
